Join your ASES and NCEO colleagues for an engaging (and free!) morning focused on the implementation of accessibility frameworks for ALL students. Whether your state is in PARCC, Smarter Balanced, or developing an assessment on its own, the move to online testing platforms has created an opportunity for accessibility to be reconceptualized for ALL students.
This preconference session will feature a panel discussion that includes states in assessment consortia as well as states that are developing their own new assessments. Panelists include:
- Melissa Gholson, West Virginia Department of Education
- Deb Matthews, Kansas Department of Education
- Nannette Pence, Alabama Department of Education
- Joyce Zurkowski, Colorado Department of Education
Topics covered by the panel include how states have transitioning to new accessibility frameworks and new assessment accessibility and accommodations implementation challenges.
Breakout discussions will allow for the opportunity to share our collective expertise about the various accessibility features and accommodations and their benefits for general education students, English language learners, students with disabilities, and English language learners with disabilities.
The session’s goal is to develop a paper that summarizes the key accessibility challenges and opportunities in this changing assessment landscape.
Snacks will be provided.
This session is freeā¦.except for you sharing your ideas during our discussions!
