Brief on Making English Learner (EL) Exit Decisions for ELs with Disabilities

NCEO has published Meeting the Needs of ELs (English Learners) with Disabilities in Your State: Making EL Exit Decisions (NCEO Brief #13). This Brief will be available in both print and online formats. It summarizes key findings from a 2016 survey of Title III directors that asked about state policies and practices for exiting ELs with disabilities from EL services. The Brief puts key findings from the larger report into a national context by describing the population of ELs with disabilities and federal requirements for determining how ELs, in general, exit from EL services. Finally, the Brief provides a set of recommendations for states to consider as they support districts and schools in making appropriate exit decisions for ELs with disabilities.
