NCEO staff members, Martha Thurlow and Sheryl Lazarus, will lead two YOU PICKS discussion sessions at the annual meeting of the National Association of State Directors of Special Education (NASDSE). YOU PICKS sessions are designed to be interactive sessions where states have the opportunity to reflect, share, question, and so forth. As session leaders, Thurlow and Lazarus will set the stage with a short handout and some conversation starters. One YOU PICK session, State Defined Alternate Diploma, will focus on the latest of considerations of states as they determine whether to develop an alternate diploma for students who participate in the alternate assessment based on alternate achievement standards. The second YOU PICK session, Beyond the Basics: Meeting the 1% Cap, will generate discussion on where states are now in meeting the 1% cap or in applying for waivers to the cap. The NASDSE annual conference is in Portland, Oregon from October 14-17, 2017.
