Two New Briefs on Access to the General Education Curriculum by Students with the Most Significant Cognitive Disabilities

TIES Center, a center affiliated with NCEO, recently published two briefs on access to the general education curriculum by students with the most significant cognitive disabilities. The first brief, Providing Meaningful General Education Curriculum Access to Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities (Brief #4), addresses the question of what access to and progress in the general education curriculum means for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities. It also provides examples of what content aligned to the grade level looks like for students who participate in the alternate assessment based on alternate academic achievement standards (AA-AAAS).

The second brief is a brief for parents titled, The General Education Curriculum – Not an Alternate Curriculum! (Brief #5). It was developed to help parents determine whether their child with significant cognitive disabilities is provided meaningful access to the general education curriculum.
